By His Authority, With His Authority, and For His Glory!
Our History
This congregation was established and offered up praise to God in its first worship service on March 11, 1968. The address of the congregation at that time was 2227 13th Avenue in Oakland.
In 1985, Brother Dennis Campbell was contracted by the leadership to begin the construction of our new building. On December 14, 1986, we marched into the building and held our first worship service to God. On February 1, 1987, we dedicated this building to God for the purpose of saving souls. The late Brother Carroll Pitts Jr. was the guest speaker.
13th Avenue Church of Christ was established as a New Testament church and this is what we strive to accomplish today 1 John 1:1. If you are interested in worshiping God, with divine authority by God, you will find like desires at 13th Avenue. We extend to you a warm invitation to visit with us so that we will be brothers and sisters in God’s family.
Many years ago we led the mission work in Trinidad, South America. The Church was established in Trinidad in 1972, with six members at the St. Paul Street Church of Christ. Several thousand persons have been baptized since then causing the Church to grow from one congregation to over 50 in Trinidad. By the help of the Lord and with your support, the Church at Trotman (formerly the St. Paul Street Church of Christ) is doing great.
Presently, we are supporting mission work in Liberia, West Africa. The congregation was established November 15, 2011. It is located in Sanniquellie, Nimba County. The Church has ten-acres of land, its own building, and has established another congregation in Gbapa. The congregation is running a Christian school (Lori and Larry Christian Academy) and is in the process of establishing a vocational school as well. Locally, we are involved in ministerial work in Willow Tree Convalescent Home at 2124 57th Avenue (Medical Hill), Holy Family Retirement Home at 2420 Fruitvale and Altenheim Senior Citizen Home. We also run the 13th Avenue Love Food Bank which serves about 400 people a month.
